What’s your favorite thing to do outside of work?
Outside of work, I like to cook, travel, socialize and spend time with my family. With my passion for being a youth advocate, I am currently completing my second year as a graduate student working on my master’s degree in Counseling Education/School Counseling at Lehman College of The City University of New York.
What drew you to education?
Education has been a strong interest of mine for many years. After completing my undergraduate degree I wanted to accomplish something that would be more fulfilling. I sought out a volunteer opportunity with a nonprofit organization in New York City where I became a peer mentor to under-served youth in my community. Through this experience I was able to become familiar with the educational and societal disparities that students of color face daily.
Why are you passionate about working at EdTrust?
EdTrust–NY is committed to fighting academic inequities among low-income students of color. Many students of color graduate high school unprepared to enter the workforce and lacking the skills needed to be successful. EdTrust–NY uses data to drive policy change to ensure that students from underrepresented communities have the tools succeed in their future.
