A little about Elizabeth Chmurak

Elizabeth is the Director of Communications for The Education Trust–NY. She leads the development and execution of communications strategies by amplifying and promoting the organization’s policy positions and advocacy messages through local, state, and national media. She also manages media relations, project releases, and communications campaign activities.

Prior to joining Ed Trust–NY, Elizabeth worked for national and international TV news organizations including CNN, CNNi, MSNBC, NBC News, CBS News, and Fox Business. An Emmy Award-winning journalist, Elizabeth is a seasoned storyteller with a career spanning more than a decade reporting and producing high-profile news segments, exclusive interviews, breaking news, politics, education, business, tech, special events, and long-form features.

A native of the Windy City of Chicago, Elizabeth holds a bachelor’s degree from Columbia College Chicago in broadcast journalism and communications.

What are people most surprised to learn about you?
I have traveled to 19 countries and lived on a yacht for a week exploring the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador.

What drew you to education?
I always had a passion for learning, writing, and reading. I think education is the most important foundation for growth and success.

Why are you passionate about working at Ed Trust?
Throughout my journalism career, I covered countless education stories about children being left behind with little to no opportunities. I am driven to make a difference by using my storytelling skills as a vehicle to raise awareness and create policy change.
