Online resource allows prospective students to learn more about postsecondary pathways

NEW YORK – The Education Trust–New York ­­­today launched a new online tool that allows students interested in pursuing a higher education degree or credential to learn more about their postsecondary options.

Finding the Perfect Pathway includes information about five different postsecondary pathways, and for each one offers questions to think about, resources, and guidance on next steps.

As the state aims to support two-thirds of New Yorkers in earning a higher education degree or credential by 2030, this new online tool offers a starting point for helping prospective students – both traditional and nontraditional – identify the pathway that works for them.

The tool also comes as high school students across the state identify issues pertaining to college and career readiness as top of mind entering a new school year. During a forum hosted by The Education Trust–New York this week, high school students had an opportunity to engage with college-aged peers to learn about their experiences preparing for and getting to college.

Access to financial aid, the application process, and strategies for transitioning from high school to college were among the top things students are interested in as they think about their postsecondary options.

“This year’s seniors have spent their entire high school career learning during a global pandemic,” said Dia Bryant, executive director of The Education Trust–New York. “Their freshman year was interrupted by the sudden shift to remote learning, and ever since then they have had to navigate shifts from remote to hybrid to in-person instruction. We must work with the greatest urgency to identify all of the academic and social emotional supports this cohort needs to pursue the postsecondary pathway that best meets their needs and will help them realize the promise of having a competitive postsecondary degree or credential.”
