We expose opportunity and outcome gaps for students of color — particularly Black, Latinx, Native American, Asian American and Pacific Islander students — students from low-income backgrounds, and other underserved communities.

We work to dismantle the racial and economic barriers that both drive and perpetuate inequity in our education system.

One in four Black, Latinx, and Native American children experience poverty in New York State. The chronic stress of poverty can have devastating effects on growing families and impacts the brain development of young children.

Access to financial aid can be a key factor in determining whether students who are from low-income backgrounds, immigrant, and first-generation college hopefuls can attend college.

School Climate

Supporting New York’s diverse student population requires providing robust mental health resources, fostering welcoming environments for students of color, diversifying curricula, and promoting culturally responsive family engagement to reduce chronic absence and improve overall school climate.

College Credit in High School

When students have access to college courses in high school, they are more likely to persist in college and earn a degree. Yet too few students have access to these programs, particularly students of color and those from low-income backgrounds.
