Equity Alert: The Growing Proficiency Crisis Among New York Students
Priorities

Building a statewide equity narrative
We convene statewide coalitions comprising of parent, student, civil rights, education, and business organizations to maximize our impact. To that end, we uplift students and families and invest in their lived experience and leadership to inform systemic policy change and implementation.

Equip children and families with what they need to thrive
We ensure every student in New York has access to high-quality, rigorous and culturally sustaining education, from birth through college.

Eliminating barriers to educational opportunity
We expose opportunity and outcome gaps for students of color, multilingual learners, students from low-income backgrounds, and other students who have been historically marginalized. We work to dismantle the racial and economic barriers that perpetuate inequity in our education system.

Holding leaders accountable for student success
We use data and advocacy to hold policymakers publicly responsible for outcomes of our education systems, from early childhood through higher education.

The Elimination of the Department of Education and Its Devastating Impact on New York’s Students
Instead of allowing political games to dismantle the education system, New York leaders must focus on solutions that strengthen education and address the real challenges we face such as underfunded schools, teacher shortages, and post-pandemic recovery.
